Toyota Warranty for New EV and Hybrid Vehicles

New electric (EVs), hybrid, and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) offer drivers the convenience and freedom to go with less or no fuel consumption thanks to powerful battery packs. However, our customers frequently have questions regarding the quality and longevity of the large battery packs. New Toyota electrified vehicles come with robust protection and peace of mind thanks to the manufacturer-backed warranties that come with all new Toyota vehicle purchases, starting with 2020 and newer models.

Our team at Toyota San Luis Obispo is proud to offer warranty-covered services to keep your new electrified vehicle in top condition, ensuring the battery lasts as long as designed.

Frequently
Asked
Questions

Toyota EVs are covered for eight years or 100,000 miles, while hybrids are covered for ten years or 150,000 miles.

We don't know exactly how long EV batteries last because there are many factors that can affect the overall lifespan. However, we do know manufacturers are confident that EV battery packs should last at least 100,000 miles or eight years because that is how long Toyota and other brands provide warranty coverage for battery-only electric vehicles. Industry leaders report that most manufacturers expect their EV battery packs to last well into the 200,000-mile range, with a degradation rate of about 1.8 percent every year.

EV batteries degrade over time, but you can slow the process by avoiding extreme temperatures and keeping the battery within 15 to 85 percent. Avoid draining the battery completely, and use Level I or Level II as the main charging method.

Toyota recommends only using DC fast chargers a maximum of twice per day because excessive fast-charging stations can degrade the battery faster.

No, you cannot jump-start the main lithium-ion battery packs that provide the driving range in EVs. However, EVs also have a small 12-volt battery to power accessories, which can be jump-started. You must also never jump-start another vehicle with an EV, as it can harm the battery pack and void the warranty.
